I returned home from the gym yesterday to find some carpet on the back porch. As I entered our living room, I noticed that my wife had stripped the floor to the hardwood. Although it was beautiful, there was a patch of wood that was certainly out of place. It was also an eyesore. I was curious, so I asked my wife about it. She grew up in the house, and informed me that it had been the location a previous wall, removed when a large addition was added. We weren’t married at the time, so I was clueless. I hadn’t known, because the evidence was hidden. As they saying goes, “Out of sight, out of mind”
Life is like that sometimes. The struggles and the “issues” are still there. We can cover them up, and try to forget about them, but they’ll eventually resurface.
Perhaps a better approach is to deal with the issues before the camouflage is necessary. Otherwise, you’ll spend a significant amount of time repairing the damage. At the very least, you’ll have to deal with the reminders of your past.
